Host a Build-A-Bag Event

What is a Build-A-Bag Event?

Volunteers gather to create birthday gift bags. Each bag contains an assortment of new toys which include items like books, plush toys, balls, puzzles, stickers, crayons, etc.

Build-a-Bag Events are held by various groups – corporate, civic, school, faith-based and even families.

Community (School, Church, Business, Service)
Organizations can hold a Build-a-Bag Event to provide a hands-on volunteer opportunity that impacts their community. Examples of those who successfully use this activity include school groups, confirmation classes, boy and girl scout groups, church groups and women’s groups.

Corporations
Holding a Build-a-Bag Event within a corporate setting provides employees a hands-on volunteer opportunity to make a difference without leaving the workplace. It can be held annually, quarterly, monthly or as a one-time event.

Families
A Build-a-Bag Event is a great activity at family gatherings and also supports your community. It makes a great birthday party activity for children or adults while instilling the value of concern for one’s neighbor and community.

What to Include in the Birthday Bags

Items should be suitable for kids ages 1-18. About ten new, small items should go into each bag with a minimum total value of 10 dollars. An effort should be made to see that a book and/or stuffed animal is in each bag. Here are some suggestions, but let your imagination be your guide.
